The external work included a full roof replacement, cladding of the exterior walls, installation of a new CCTV security system and access panels, and new car parking including electric gates. Internally a lot of work was completed including new doors and windows throughout, creation of an office, reception, staff facilities and kitchen, new plumbing and electrics, a new lift servicing the three floors and the fit out of the self-service storage units. The works were specified to achieve a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating.

The budget for this extensive project was £3.1 million and the team are pleased to announce the project came in on budget and within the 13-month timeframe with an allotted one-month extension work agreed.

Daniel Saunders, Senior VP at StorageMart commented "When we were first introduced to the site it was difficult to see past the sheer scale of contamination across the entire building so every surface required correct remediation.

SHW in tandem with the principal contractor brought great insights and novel approaches to deliver on our expectations and budget despite the myriad challenges the site presented"

Paul Armstrong, SHW Building Surveyor comments “This was a fantastic project to work on, with a constructive collaborative approach between us, the client and the contractor. At the start of the project the building was in a poor state of repair and posed several challenges along the way, but with a lot of hard work the finished result is an impressive unit completed to a high standard throughout.”
