SHW & Nightwatch Croydon Celebrate a Year of Fundraising Success

CSR, SHW News

SHW met with fundraising partner; Croydon Nightwatch, one of our two current nominated charities this week, to discuss the past year’s CSR and Social events that have helped raise much needed funds to support the homeless.

Nightwatch currently have a core group of trained volunteers who meet every night in Queen’s Gardens, Croydon, to assist homeless people by providing urgent and necessary items of food, clothes, toiletries and household goods to people in need. They are considered as the first-line agency in offering help to the newly homeless but also provide help to those people going through various stages of homelessness, encouraging and assisting in their resettlement back into the community, providing them with furniture and household items.

Throughout a year of sporting events like the SHW Great Walk, Volleyball and Padel, and other fundraising activities including various office bake sales throughout the year; we are delighted to share that SHW have raised £5,000 for the charity.

Nicky Edwards, Nightwatch Secretary commented “Nightwatch is a soup kitchen run solely by volunteers. Any funds received go to buying basics like tinned soup, sandwich ingredients and fruit and snack items to serve nightly in Croydon. Donations are also used to buy clothes and shoes for clients when requested and toiletries on a monthly basis.

Money after that is used on resettlement costs for when a client has been given a tenancy agreement and a key for a bare room. Nightwatch aim to make it a little more like a home.

We would supply the basics, such as a bed, wardrobe, kettle, pots and pans etc.

Nightwatch can also help with one-off payments of bills accrued by clients that stop them being able to get accommodation or indeed losing it due to unpaid bills.

Nightwatch survives on donations from the public and businesses and any money raised by SHW will go directly to helping people in need and in food poverty, for which we thank you.”

Matt Morris, Surveyor for SHW added “It is great to be able to contribute to the magnificent work Nightwatch do for the most vulnerable in our local Croydon community, and we look forward to another year of fundraising and working with them.”
