The SHW team have completed their first day of volunteering for FareShare Sussex and Surrey. SHW in teams of 5 are completing 6 sessions with FareShare over 3 days.

Established in 2002, FareShare is the region’s leading food distribution charity, set up with the aim to fight hunger in the community by tackling food waste. Their team of volunteers save c.100 tonnes of good quality, in-date, surplus food each week and redistribute it to organisations supporting the most vulnerable across the region.

Birgit Bammert, SHW’s Accounts Assistant commented: “We were given steel capped boots, high vis vests and gloves, and after a short manual handling training session, we were let loose to join other existing volunteers.”

Paul Armstrong, SHW Chartered Surveyor added: “It was a great experience and nice to make a small contribution to their work reducing food waste and putting it to good use.” Jasmine Dean-Milward said: “What a rewarding afternoon helping out at FareShare Sussex & Surrey as a part of our CSR day at SHW.”

And Duncan Marsh, Partner, Regional Head for SHW Sussex Coastal Offices finally added “It was a pleasure to help FareShare and work alongside new and existing volunteers to see what goes into such a large operation and great cause, I look forward to volunteering here over the next few days.
