SHW assigned new project to ‘Save the Hall’ in Meads, Eastbourne

Building Consultancy, SHW News

SHW’s Building Consultancy Department in Eastbourne has been recently successful in tendering to provide Project Management, Principal Designer, full Design & Contract Administration services to save a beloved local community centre in Meads, Eastbourne.

The BCD team have been appointed by The Trustees as Project Managers to oversee the whole restoration & refurbishment, and as the name suggests, ‘save the hall’. The ‘rot to repair’ scheme means that repair and refurbishment can reverse the dilapidation making it fit for the 21st century and in doing so there should be plenty more years of enjoyment left in this iconic building.

This scheme follows on from late 2023 when locals volunteered their skills and time to return St. John's Parish Hall into a safe state for its users to return, after the Hall was closed on 24th November 2023 due to several health and safety concerns.

Adam Jordan, Partner at SHW comments “SHW are immensely proud and excited to have been appointed to provide full Project Management services on the restoration and modernisation of the Hall. Whilst the timescales for the project are very tight (because of the Government funding), we will have the Hall restored before the end of March ’25 and this wouldn’t be achievable if it not for the hard work undertaken prior to our appointment by the Trustees and the willingness to engage by Eastbourne Borough Council. Being in the town, I am aware about how important this asset is to both the residents of Meads and the wider community. Once complete the Hall will provide a valuable community asset, one which the whole town can be proud of.”

Trustees of the Meads (Eastbourne) Community Centre commented “After interviewing a number of companies and assessing their tenders, the trustees are looking forward to working with partner Adam Jordan and his colleagues at SHW. With a track record of projects big and small, and a wealth of knowledge and experience, scale and multi-disciplinary capability, the project will be in good hands.”
