South London CSR Day
CSR, SHW News
Members of the SHW team left the world of work for a rewarding and fun day this month at Fitze Millennium Centre in South London, to work with Evolve Housing on sprucing up the communal areas provided for homeless, vulnerable people in the area.
With a variety of activities to participate in, from varied and practical outdoor seasonal tasks to indoor labouring, the teams were split into two - Gardeners and Decorators for the day of giving.
Equipped with a host of tools, and most importantly gardening gloves, the gardening team got stuck in litter picking, restoring a redundant vegetable garden and fruit cage, weeding and cutting back shrubs and hedges, cleaning outside furniture and creating space for the planting of new herbs, plants and a greenhouse.
The decorating team went to town transforming the reception and two interview rooms, moving on to the office and the canteen with extra help from the gardening team.
With positive feedback received from Evolve Housing, comments included: ‘’The work SHW did will have an immediate, very visible impact on the service, and make a real difference to people’s experience with us.’’…“It is making me feel more creative and spiritual.”…“It feels much more homely”….“It has gone from 1980 to 2023.” One customer is now inspired to create another wall where people can write inspiring quotes to cheer each other up.
Evolve put on a stellar lunch for the team, setting them up for the remainder of the day of hard work. Kirsty Hudson, Property Manager at SHW, said: “We had a very productive and rewarding day and it was great to work alongside the Evolve team and to see first-hand the marvellous work they do.
“The Partners would like to extend their gratitude to everyone who took part in organising and participating and the feedback received makes us very proud.”
