Business Rates, Industry News, SHW News
The Chancellor has recently announced, Business Rates relief measures to assist the Retail, Leisure and Hospitality sector which is 100% discount on occupied property for the period 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2021.
If a property has closed temporarily due to the governments advice on COVID-19 this will be treated as occupied for the purpose of the relief.
Local Authorities will have a degree of discretion where it is not clear if a property falls within the definition of retail property. There will be some descriptions that may need to be updated and we can advise if specific occupiers have any queries.
The Government have also announced various grants available to the Retail, Leisure and Hospitality sector as well:
- A £25,000 grant will be provided to retail, hospitality and leisure businesses, with a rateable value between £15,000 and £51,000
- Additionally, a one-off grant of £10,000 will be granted to businesses currently eligible for SBRR or rural rate relief, occupiers will be contacted by your local authority and do not need to apply. This is all properties not just retail and leisure.
