Project
The expansion proposal was selected by Surrey County Council to form part of their SEND and Alternative Provision (AP) Capital Programme.
The school is located on a very tight site and the space analysis and masterplan SHW carried out initially had to carefully consider these constraints as well as the requirement for the school to remain operational throughout the project. Particular care was taken when considering the programming of the works in relation to the impact of the work on the students.
The additional teaching accommodation includes 2 new classroom blocks, one either end of the original main school building. Large parts of the existing building were remodelled and upgraded and now provide newly refurbished Design & Technology, Food Technology and Science spaces, as well as a redesigned reception area and additional admin and therapy spaces.
The new classrooms feature quiet zones which were specifically designed to provide a calming space where students can focus without distractions.
