SHW’s Eastbourne building consultancy team won the instruction for an over roofing project for Hastings Borough Council, via a competitive tender and were then appointed to provide Project Manager/Contract Admin and Principal Designer services. The project was to be at Castleham Road, St Leonards.
The project consisted of overlaying of asbestos cement sheets with coated steel sheets and guttering works. The initial contract sum was £296,000 and the team delivered it considerably under that at £280,000.
Jamie Scott, Building Surveyor for SHW’s Building Consultancy Team commented “Beforehand the units were leaking. We installed insulation between the former roof covering (asbestos) and the new roof covering, which eradicated condensation issues the occupiers of the units were also experiencing. The materials were easily obtainable, which helped us come in within the specified timeframe.”
