SHW completes reinstatement works following fire damage

SHW’s Building Consultancy Department was appointed by a Private Client as Contract Administrator and Principal Designer for a residential project in Hatch Cottage, Wintney which involved reinstatement works following fire damage.
The Hampshire BCD team visited the site shortly after the fire to ascertain the extent of the damage and issued an appraisal report to the client outlining the required works. This report formed the basis of the initial enabling works which involved stripping out all the fire damaged material and debris and installing temporary weathering over the roof.
As the enabling works were being undertaken, the team produced a full Specification of Works and liaised with both the Client and the Loss Adjuster for the insurers to agree what works were included whilst also complying with statutory obligations. The Client also decided to use this as an opportunity for some improvement works, so the team therefore provided proposals for layout changes including increasing the size of the family bathroom which the client agreed to.
The specification was tendered to gain a competitive cost which was agreed by all parties. The specification included installation of a temporary roof over the entire property to enable the works to continue throughout the winter months.
The contract length for this project was 24 weeks (Nov 2023 – April 2024) and the contract sum was circa £400,000.
The works progressed well, and the project was completed three weeks early and under budget much to the satisfaction of both the client and the insurers.
